Revealed: One thing that still frustrates Jurgen Klopp at Liverpool

Not everything has gone swimmingly for Jurgen Klopp since he arrived at Liverpool last October.

The German could only guide the Reds to an eighth placed finish in the league last season, while they also lost in the final of both the League Cup and the Europa League.

While performances on the pitch appear to have improved with Klopp’s side sitting level on points at the top of the league after nine matches, there is still something that is frustrating him off the pitch.

A report in the Liverpool Echo suggests the big separation between the academy and the training ground has been a source of frustration for Klopp since he arrived.

They claim that Klopp wants everyone – from the under 9s to the first-team – working together in the same training complex.

At the moment, there are five miles separating the first-team’s training ground in Melwood from the academy pitches in Kirkby.

Immediately after signing a six-year extension to his contract in the summer, Klopp insisted it was vital to bring together the academy and Melwood.

“We need to develop the club,” Klopp said.

“We’re building a new stand, we think about building a new Academy or bringing the Academy and Melwood together. Things like this – it’s much longer term than my contract.

“It’s important we do the right things so this wonderful club can be successful both in these six years but later on too. We are very responsible for the club.”

Following Liverpool’s 2-1 EFL Cup triumph over Tottenham on Tuesday, Klopp admitted that he was keen to call upon the youngsters at the club rather than sign players.

He handed full debuts to both Trent Alexander-Arnold and Ovie Ejaria against Spurs – both of which impressed.

And Klopp has admitted he would love to be able to bring through numerous academy products in the future and not make a single signing in the years to come.

“Of course it’s cool if we have 10 players from the Academy and we make no signing in the transfer window,” Klopp added.

“I would love to be part of the press conference when I say this! ‘No signings this year’. Then it would be: ‘But we need this, this, this and this’. I’d say: ‘But we have already’ and nobody would believe me.

So, it seems as though Klopp has the future of Liverpool very firmly in his thought-process and is determined to make drastic changes to able to produce the next Jamie Carragher or Steven Gerrard.
