Revealed: The Reason Behind Chelsea’s Failed Bid To Land Premier League Star In January!

The victory over Arsenal in the recent round of the Premier League has now made Chelsea top favourites to lift the Premier League title this season. They are currently 9 points off the Spurs in the 2nd place and with just 1 cup competition to worry about, Chelsea might lift their second title in three years.

However, the manager was evidently unhappy with the options at his disposal at the start of the year and was vigorously searching for options to add to his squad in the winter transfer window. And one name that was constantly linked with a move to the Bridge is Swansea hitman Fernando Llorente.

The Spanish international has previous experience of playing under Conte in his time in Turin and it was understood that Chelsea were close to landing him before the deadline day.

However, the 31-year old, who is a superb form for Paul Clement’s side this season, stayed put at the Liberty leaving Conte empty handed.

And in a recent interview with the media, Llorente revealed what went wrong in January.

The former Juventus man recently revealed that it was difficult for him and Swansea to agree on a deal in the middle of the season, especially with his team in the middle of a relegation battle in the Premier League.

“I already know Conte from Juventus,” Llorente said.

“But it’s difficult in the winter when there’s a way out from a side you’re playing for and it’s normal that they didn’t go ahead with the deal,” he added.

Swansea, who have put in some superb performances recently, have moved out of the relegation zone and Llorente was quick to point out that it was his aim this season to keep the Swans in the top flight for another year.

“I’m very focused on the team and am looking forward to helping save us from relegation. “The last few games I’ve been happy with as we’ve gotten away from the bottom.”

“It will be a very tough fight, though, and we hope to get further ahead when we face Leicester in a final next Sunday,” he added.

The Swansea manager also opened up about the transfer that never materialised and revealed that he was unsure whether the 31-year would stay at the club beyond the deadline day.

He said: “After that game, he had at Liverpool, he felt good. We’re happy with him so when both parties are happy, there’s no need to move.

“Of course, it can put questions in a player’s mind, but in my conversations with him he has been happy here,” he added.

At his age, Llorente would have been a superb addition for Chelsea where he would have acted as a backup for in-form Diego Costa for the rest of the season.

Llorente is in his debut season in the Premier League but at his age, he does not have too many prolific years left under his belt and he will surely look elsewhere come the end of the season.

Do you think Fernando Llorente was right in snubbing Chelsea in January?
