Louis van Gaal could be axed over the phone after Manchester United’s home match against Chelsea tonight.
According to Daily Star, Louis van Gaal will be fired if Manchester United loose to Chelsea tonight.
Reports are suggesting, a conference call between United chief executive Ed Woodward and the club’s American owners will decide the Dutchman’s fate after the match at Old Trafford.
The Red Devils have suffered four consecutive defeats to leave van Gaal on the brink. Defeats to Stoke, Norwich, Bournemouth and Wolfsburg have seen them hurtle down the league table and also kicked away from the Champions League.
If the reports are believed to be true then it could all be over for LVG by the time Manchester United welcome Swansea on 2nd January. Rumours this morning suggested United chief executive Woodward will dial in for a conversation with the Glazer family after the Chelsea match tonight to decide the 64-year-old’s future at Old Trafford.
Following his exit from Chelsea, Jose Mourinho has been highly linked to replace van Gaal, while assistant Ryan Giggs could be handed the charge on a temporary basis until terms are trashed out with the Portuguese manager
Pep Guardiola is also a potential target, but he will not be available until next summer when the Spaniard’s contract with Bayern Munich ends.
The under-fire Manchester United manager already knows he will be shown the door if his squad suffer another defeat against Chelsea at Old Trafford tonight.
Louis van Gaal cut a really sorry figure when he tried to explain his United’s 2-0 defeat to Stoke, their fourth consecutive loss and also the worst run in 54 years.
The Dutchman had no other choice but to admit that right now he cannot promise the team’s shattered confidence will improve ahead of tonight’s do-or-die clash.
When asked if he felt the players still have faith in him, the United manager said: “Until now, I can say yes.”
But the normally arrogant tactician, who demanded an apology from the media before Chrsitmas, didn’t give any assurances that things would improve from now on.
The 64-year-old told the reporters: “It’s not so easy any more. When you lose four matches in a row, it’s much more difficult than after the third match.
“It’s like that and the pressure increases, so it is much more difficult.
Ironically the Blues know that by defeating United they can pave the way for their former manager Jose Mourinho to become their future rival manager.
