Manchester United are currently in the middle of a two-week hiatus due to the international break, but Mourinho’s men will surely look to come back with a bang; The Manchester derby. The Portuguese manager himself revealed players travelling back from South America, including Sergio Romero, Marcos Rojo and Antonio Valencia, will only arrive back at Carrington 24 hours before the game. He also claimed United’s preparation for the derby with Manchester City will be hampered by the international break.
Mourinho is troubled by not being able to monitor how his players train and live during this period, with his concerns heightened ahead of the match with rivals City on September 10 that pits him against Pep Guardiola once again.
Ahead of that crunch game, we’ve decided to draw up our strongest possible starting eleven when everyone is fit.
The new boss made some brilliant transfers during the transfer window, and all four of which more than deserve to start as they strengthen the look of the side considerably.
In goal United have David de Gea, and he’ll have Antonio Valencia and Luke Shaw in front of him in the full-back slots. The centre of defence is best occupied by Eric Bailly and Chris Smalling.
The midfield two of Daley Blind and Paul Pogba certainly makes you salivate at the mouth. Blind’s toughness, positioning and defensive-minded attitude coupled with the marauding Frenchman is exciting.
The front four is where things get really interesting. Wayne Rooney, for all his sins, is probably still the Red Devils best no.10 and he always seems to have an impact on the game.
Rooney will have Anthony Martial and Henrikh Mkhitaryan either side of him, with Zlatan Ibrahimovic leading the line.
