Revealed: Wenger’s confusing update on Alexis Sanchez’s ankle injury
Arsene Wenger has offered a positive injury update on Alexis Sanchez, despite the Chilean star missing their pre-season tour of the United States.
The 27-year-old attacker suffered a swollen ankle in the Copa America final against Argentina.
Sanchez shared an image of his ankle and Gooners were certainly terrified at the prospect of him missing the start the season.

But Wenger now insists the injury was ‘not too bad’, despite his absence from the tour.
“Alexis will not go because he had an ankle injury,” Wenger said.
“That is not too bad but I will leave him behind.”
Wenger also confirmed the absence of several other big stars.
“The players who won’t make it are the players who went very far in the European Championship, such as [Aaron] Ramsey, [Mesut] Ozil, [Olivier] Giroud and [Laurent] Koscielny.
“I left Gabriel behind today because he has tonsillitis and is infected. He cannot travel.”
Wenger believes the bulk of his squad will be in good shape for the August 14 kick-off thanks to their own professionalism and a run of five friendlies in France, the United States and Scandinavia.
“Let’s not forget that we play Liverpool and Leicester in the first two games so we have to be ready physically and fitness-wise,” he told the club website. “What has changed compared to 10 or 15 years ago is that the players come back basically fit today.”
While yearning for new investment is all well and good, ultimately, any new signings that Arsenal make this Summer are futile if they are unable to keep hold of their star players. Mesut Ozil, Hector Bellerin and Olivier Giroud have all been linked with a move away from the Emirates.
While these rumours are rather unfounded and have little substantiated evidence to base such claims, there is one player who is continually pushed towards an Arsenal exit through a variety of reports.
Now, these reports are becoming more and more significant, and it could well develop into the key story line of Arsenal’s lacking summer.
