Manchester United great Rio Ferdinand lavished praise on Liverpool winger Luis Diaz after his stellar performance against Crystal Palace. Liverpool were once again held to a draw in their second league game of the season, after the opening day stalemate against Fulham. Moreover, the Reds had to come from behind to salvage a point at their home turf, Anfield.

However, Ferdinand looked heavily impressed with Diaz who pulled Liverpool back on level just after the hour mark. Diaz took on almost half of the Palace team from the left wing before cutting onto his right foot and placing it into the back of the net from outside of the box. The former United center-back was quick to acknowledge the Colombian’s great effort through his social media.

What a player Diaz is- Ferdinand in the awe of Liverpool winger

On a night where Liverpool started with an attack of Mohamed Salah, Darwin Nunez and Luis Diaz, they trailed after just half-an-hour into the game. Eberechi Eze started a counter attack for Palace, before making his way past Fabinho to release Wilfried Zaha. Liverpool center-back Nathaniel Phillips failed to cope with the Palace winger’s pace as he went pass him to for a one-on-one situation with Alisson.

Zaha smashed it past the Brazilian ‘keeper to put Palace’s nose in front of a packed Anfield. The second-half seemed to pile up misery on Liverpool as Darwin Nunez was red carded for his headbutt on Palace defender Joachim Andersen in the box. Just when everybody had thought there was no way back for Klopp’s men, Diaz came out of the blue to put things at par.

Taking it to Twitter, Rio Ferdinand described the the 25-year-old Liverpool winger’s performance, stating: “What a player Diaz is… attitude, desire, personality bang on!”

Certainly, Diaz’s display against the Eagles was one stacked with all the qualities listed by the former defender. Further on, the Colombian finished the game with unbelievable numbers as he racked up 84 touches, 2 shots on target, 7 dribbles completed, 5 tackles and 16 duels won. Diaz put in an all-round performance, however was unable to get Liverpool their first win of the season.

The Reds now languish in 12th place after the second round of fixtures, 4 points behind leaders Manchester City. They are next up against Manchester United who even are yet to win a point in the new season after back-to-back losses to Brighton and Brentford. Liverpool will be highly motivated to play a struggling United and win all three points.
