Dailystar claims, hundreds of fans rushed to the Goodison park to check the truthfulness of the tweet.
A fellow supporter also said: “No official statement from the club but he’s been told to clear his desk. He leaves EFC with a tasty £12,000,000 payout.”
The Toffees fans are furious on this incident and are planning a protest outside the St George’s Hall in Liverpool where the event will take place. Martinez didn’t take the training today and thus, everyone in the club was calling for the Toffees manager, who is going to be sacked as they couldn’t hold on to their superb start of the season and managed a team whose performance went from bad to worse. And Wednesday night’s dismal performance in a 3-0 defeat by Sunderland has only added some fuel to the burning anger of the fans. Martinez is still planning to attend the awards event unless he gets the boot before tonight. Though Everton’s board is still silent on the incident.
The official statement from the club read: “Everton Football Club regrets to announce that Roberto Martinez has left his position as First Team Manager with immediate effect.
The Chairman and the Board of Directors would like to place on record their thanks for the dedication and commitment Roberto has shown during his three seasons with the Club. Roberto has been a great ambassador for the Club, conducting himself, at all times, with the utmost integrity and dignity. He secured the Club its highest ever Premier League points total, a place in the last 16 of the Europa League and appearances in both domestic cup semi-finals. He has also played a key role in the development of several young players, managing their progression to the Everton First Team and International honours.”
