Everton can still sign Andriy Yarmolenko according to coach Roberto Martinez. There were reports about the Ukranian’s agent being in the crowd on Saturday watching Everton play Dagenham in the FA Cup but Martinez says that he knows nothing about that.

Roberto Martinez has a long standing interest in the Dynamo Kyiv attacker and there is a feeling that he could be available in this window. Yarmolenko is currently the top scorer for his side with 13 goals from 22 appearances.

Martinez explained: “I never close the door to anything, so yeah we could see a player of that calibre coming here.

“It’s the window and there are a couple of situations that could happen. We want the squad to be stronger but at the same time the squad is too big, it was built for European football, and there are a couple who need to go to get regular football.”

Martinez has made several attempts to sign Yarmolenko and it seems that Everton’s attempts to sign him in this window will also be unsuccessful. Kyiv are still in the Champions’ League, so a deal remains unlikely until the summer, especially given the £20m price tag.

This is what Martinez had to say when he was asked about Yarmolenko’s agent being present in the crowd: “I don’t know the identity of everyone who comes to Goodison – we had a cat but he can’t play for us.

“I’m sure there were many other people watching the game that can give you leads to players around the world.”

Everton are currently 11th in the table and need more defensive reinforcements because they have already let in 29 goals this season. Everton have an abundance of attackers with the likes of Steven Naismith and Kevin Mirallas not getting too much playing time. If a move for Yarmolenko does materialise it will probably be in the summer.
