Following Liverpool’s 2-2 draw with Arsenal at Anfield, Roy Keane had the Sky Sports studio in stitches with his jibe at And Robertson. Arsenal had a 2-0 lead thanks to goals from Gabriel Martinelli and Gabriel Jesus until substitute Roberto Firmino headed in a late equaliser for his eighth goal against the Gunners in eight games against them at Anfield.

As Mohamed Salah pulled one back for the Reds before missing a penalty, one of the season’s most stunning incidents occurred during the tense match when a linesman seemed to elbow Andy Robertson at halftime. Constantine Hatzidakis, the linesman for the game raised his elbow at the Scot who appeared to grab him, as seen from a variety of camera angles.

Keane slams Andy Robertson for being a ‘baby’ as Sky Sports colleagues burst into laughter

Andy Robertson was still furious as he made his way to the dressing room down the tunnel after referee Paul Tierney flashed a yellow card at him for protesting. However, sitting in the Sky Sports studio, Keane had no pity for the left-back and in a tirade at halftime told Robertson to “concentrate on his defending” while calling him a “big baby.”

After the game, the unusual altercation was a hot topic of conversation, but Keane stuck by his remarks and used the “baby” repeatedly to mock the Scotland international. He said:

“Robertson, do you know what, does he grab the linesman first? I’m not sure, but he’s complaining. He should be more worried about his defending. Do you know what it is, that Robertson? I’ve watched him a number of times. Just get on with the game and concentrate on your defending. He does grab the linesman first. He’s a big baby. That’s what he is. What a big baby. Get on with the game… Baby.”

The final usage of the word ‘baby’ sent everyone in the studio into a fit of hysterics, with Jamie Carragher, Gary Neville, and David Jones unable to contain their laughing. Even Keane himself was smiling during a truly fantastic passage of time. Despite claiming to have observed what transpired, manager Jurgen Klopp said nothing further about the situation.

Meanwhile, Geoff Shreeves, a touchline reporter for Sky Sports, when covering the remarkable 2-2 stalemate between Liverpool and Arsenal on Sunday at Anfield revealed Andy Robertson’s reaction to the linesman’s conduct against him from the tunnel. Shreeves reported:

“Andy Robertson was absolutely apoplectic, stunned even. He said ‘the linesman has just elbowed me in the throat’ – Jordan Henderson was well aware of it and led the remonstrations with referee Paul Tierney and after that they got taken away. Extraordinary scenes.”

Following the incident, Robertson and a host of other Liverpool players swarmed the officials. To the ire of all those protesting, Tierney then issued a booking to the Reds’ left-back instead. According to the PGMOL, they are ‘aware’ of the situation involving Andy Robertson and Constantine Hatzidakis and will look into it.
