According to latest reports, Real Madrid star and Arsenal target midfielder Sami Khedira has committed his future to German club Schalke after successful negotiations. The player might move onto the Bundesliga club on a free transfer this summer.
The 27-year old German International’s career was plagued with a series of injuries after moving to Real Madrid back in 2010. The player’s contract is set to expire on June 30 this year which means that he can sign a pre-contract with any club from the end of January.
The defensive midfielder who played a key role in Germany’s world cup triumph drawn interest from a host of clubs across Europe which included Arsenal, Manchester United, Chelsea, Bayern and PSG.
The midfielder was mostly restricted to bench this season as he fell behind fellow German Toni Kroos and Luka Modric who were preferably selected as defensive midfielder duo for Real Madrid throughout the season.
Interest from rivals Dortmund meant Schalke are ready to pay wages that the former Stuttgart player is demanding. Schalke president Clemens Tönnies himself confirmed that they approached Khedira.
“There have been initial talks. We believe that a fit-again Khedira would help us,” Tonnies told Bild.
The Real Madrid ace made only 3 starts in La Liga and 4 starts overall while came as substitute 9 times this season.
