Juventus attacker is Sebastian Giovinco is set to join Toronto FC at the end o the season, the MLS club has confirmed. A youth product of the Juventus academy, Giovinco departed the Turin club for Parma in 2010. However the Old Lady exercised their right on the player,,and purchased the other 50% of Giovinco’s transfer rights from the Gialloblù for €11 million in 2012.
The diminutive attacker since has found first team chances hard to come by. He made 130 appearances for Juventus, scoring 20 goals and assisting 23. Known as ‘Atomic Ant’, Giovinco expressed his excitement after agreeing a deal with the America outfit, also making his feelings for his boyhood club known.
Talking to Toronto’s official website, he said,“I am excited to sign with Toronto FC today and look forward to joining the club this summer. I have heard so many great things about Toronto over the years and I know that it will be a city that I feel right at home in. Until then, I have many things I still want to accomplish for Juventus and our fans. I will always give my heart and soul for Juve until I change shirts this summer.”
The MLS commences in March, and the Reds have already strengthened their side by recruiting American International Jozy Altidore from Sunderland. Manager Greg Vanney was excited with the new team ahead of the 2015 season. He said,”Sebastian Giovinco is a complete player with the ability to not only create but also to score goals as he’s proven throughout his career in Italy,”
“We are very excited for the 2015 season and adding another important piece to an already solid core group only makes us stronger.” Touted to replace Alessandro Del Piero for having similar style of play, Giovinco never really lived upto the hype of emulating the former Juventus legend, who also left the Turin club for America.
