Sergi Roberto Relives The Magical Winner Against PSG; Reveals How They Felt Moments Before The Goal
The world of football witnessed something seriously magical at the Camp Nou on Wednesday as Luis Enrique’s Barcelona managed to defy all odds to move into the quarter final of the Champions League this season.
Having been taken to the cleaners in the first leg by PSG in a 4-0 loss, Barcelona were expected to make a fist of the second leg of the Round of 16 tie with the French giants but they more than conquered the League 1 side.
They started the game in fine fashion, scoring in less than 200 seconds on the clock from the kickoff and though the game had some interesting twists and turns, two late goals from Neymar Jr propelled them out of a tight spot on the night.
The Spanish giants went 3-0 up in the night but Uruguay star Edinson Cavani found the back of the net which meant that Barcelona needed 3 more goals to stay safe in the competition.
With just 9 minutes left on the clock, the Brazil star curled one into the top corner and not long later, Barcelona made the greatest comeback ever in the history of the competition.
Neymar converted a penalty a few minutes after the free-kick and though his couple of goals have all do with the revival, the Camp Nou faithful now have a new hero they can look up to.
La Masia graduate Sergi Roberto, who is among the most versatile players in the country, started the game on the bench and there is now way in a million years for anybody to write such a script.
He came on with not much of the game to go but Roberto scored with his last touch of the ball in the game to help Barcelona to a 6-1 victory.
He got on the end of a cross from Neymar deep in stoppage time and it was a moment straight out of a fairy tale.
The player himself felt the same and revealed that he still cannot believe that he won the game for his side.
“When I woke up, I wasn’t sure if it hadn’t all been a dream,” he said in an interview with Barca TV recently.
He went on to explain how he was feeling during the last few moments of the game and revealed that his team were helped by the fans in the stadium on the night.
“I didn’t see a thing until the ball went in. I could see that [Gerard] Pique hadn’t reached it and I threw everything at it. It went in and we all went crazy.”
We could feel that the Camp Nou was buzzing. We could really feel the fans’ support… I simply have no words to explain how it felt,” he added.
He further added that it was a dream come true for him to be able to win his boyhood club a game of this stature at the highest level.
“I had always dreamed of scoring a goal like that and being a lad from La Masia made it all the more special. I’ve worked so long to do something incredible like this for my club,” he added.
