Wojciech Szczesny
Wojciech Szczesny future in doubt

Arsenal is finding it hard to make a deal with Roma for Wojciech Szczesny, according to reports from Italian media.

It’s believed Arsene Wenger wants to keep the Polish keeper out on loan this season also as Petr Cech remains the first choice between the sticks for the Gunners.

But now, Sky Sports Italy journalist Gianluca di Marzio has suggested that Roma is now interested in pursuing Spanish keeper Diego Lopez instead of the former Arsenal No.1.

Lopez is leaving current club, AC Milan, this summer and could be a solution to the Italian side’s goalkeeping problem.

Although, according to the Evening Standard, Chelsea have also been linked with the 34-year-old shot stopper and could make a move for him if current backup Asmir Begovic decides to make a switch to Everton.

Szczesny was sent away on loan by Arsenal after a turbulent 2014/15 season where he was fined for smoking in the changing rooms after a mistake-ridden performance against Southampton.

Szczesny, 26, had previously been Arsene Wenger’s first-choice goalkeeper at Arsenal, but the arrivals of David Ospina and Petr Cech combined with Szczesny’s consistently indifferent form resulted in the Polish international dropping drown to the third choice in the pecking order, leaving the club on loan during the 2015-16 season on loan to Roma.

The 26-year-old even did nothing to cool relations between himself and the North London club earlier this year when he claimed he’d learnt more in four months at Roma than he had in 10 years at Arsenal.

Szczesny was set to be Poland’s No.1 for Euro 2016 but picked up an injury in their first game against Northern Ireland and was ruled out for the rest of the tournament.
