Shocking: Arsenal’s most prolific scorer receives strict warning for breaking club rule
Arsene Wenger has reportedly warned Alexis Sanchez not to break the club’s penalty rule again after infuriating his manager during the win against Hull City.
The Chilean forward had his spot-kick saved against the Tigers, but shouldn’t have been taking it in the first place as Santi Cazorla was supposed to be first in the pecking order.
However, Sanchez stepped up instead and landed himself in trouble with the Gunners boss for ignoring his orders.
His supposed selfishness at the penalty spot earned him an unwanted record in Arsenal’s history books as he became the only Gunner to miss his first two penalties for the club.
According to the Daily Mirror, Wenger has made it clear to the 27-year-old that Cazorla is very much the first choice to take penalties for Arsenal.
The Spaniard scored in the recent win over Southampton and was also supposedly left stunned when Sanchez took the penalty off him in the win over Hull.
Arsenal fans were earlier this month given something to worry, as Alexis Sanchez could reportedly demand a buy-out clause in his new deal.
The 27-year-old has just two years left to run on his current contract and the club are already trying to get him to put pen to paper on fresh terms in north London. And he could demand a fixed-price get-out clause in any new Gunners deal.
Sanchez joined the Emirates club in the summer of 2014, arriving from Barcelona for a fee of £35m.
Meanwhile, in the week Wenger celebrates 20 years since being named as Arsenal manager, he comes up against the team he has had one of his biggest rivalries with Chelsea.
The Frenchman will hope to mark the occasion with a win but his side has failed to do that in any of their last nine Premier League meetings with the Stamford Bridge outfit.
Indeed, Arsenal has also failed to score in their last six league matches against Chelsea but a victory here would give them a fourth successive league win for the first time since last October.
Out to stop him will be Antonio Conte, who is looking to avoid going three league games without a win for the first time since he had four consecutive draws with Juventus in March 2012.
