We all probably have ideas of who the most successful player in the Premier League era is.
Ryan Giggs? Good shout. Thierry Henry? How could it not be? Well, there’s a shock in store for you as, well, there’s a twist to that question.
While there are players with a lot of trophies to their name, there are a select few who proved to be more effective when it came to picking up the points.
In a study carried out by the Daily Mirror, they calculated the percentage of a player’s appearances that ended in victory. Quite simple, really.
But we bet neither they nor you (us included) saw these entrants coming.
Some players, when they’re signed, may not seem like the most glamorous options or like they’ll be game-changers, but it’s those that have surprised us.
In the top 10, the likes of N’Golo Kante, Patrice Evra and Nemanja Vidic are all present, while there are some more left-field entrants with the likes of former Manchester City midfielder Javi Garcia and Arsenal cult hero Edu both making appearances.
However, it seems the real winners were Chelsea, and more specifically, Jose Mourinho.
Having first arrived in the Premier League over a decade ago, he quickly went about changing the league and Chelsea by bringing in a series of top class players.
Ricardo Carvalho and Claude Makele both rank highly, picking up win percentages of 70.4% and 70.8% respectively, while Michael Ballack also features and Paulo Ferreira comes second.
But none of them manage to take the top spot, as that particular honour goes to Arjen Robben.
Yes, you read that correctly, Arjen Robben is the Premier League’s most effective player, though it really might not seem it.
But the Dutchman, who came so highly-rated, managed to record 55 wins from the 67 games he featured in, which gave him a ratio of 82.1%.
Certainly, Robben has gone on to bigger and better things in his career, which is something nobody would have thought at the time.
Fair play to the boy.
