Shocking: Jose Mourinho Orders Man United Star To Train Alone!!
Despite beating Swansea City 3-1 at the Liberty Stadium on Saturday afternoon, Jose Mourinho still found reason to berate some of his players.
Chris Smalling and Luke Shaw were both on the receiving end of criticism from their Portuguese manager for pulling out of the game through injury.
In Mourinho’s opinion, the Manchester United pair – who have been taking painkilling injections – should have played through the pain barrier.
“There is a difference between the brave, who want to play at any cost, and the ones for whom a little pain can make a difference,” he said.
“If I were to speak with the many great football people of this team, they will say they played many times without being 100 per cent.”
Mourinho’s comments haven’t been well received in the United camp, with Shaw reportedly feeling “baffled” by having his commitment questioned.
The international break has proved timely to allow the dust to settle on yet more unwanted publicity at Old Trafford, but according to the Daily Mail, Mourinho has taken drastic measures to improve Shaw’s fitness.
England caretaker manager Gareth Southgate opted against including the left-back for games against Scotland and Spain, which would normally give Shaw the opportunity to rest.
However, while Mourinho has allowed most of his United squad time off, he’s arranged the 21-year-old an individual training regime and ordered him to work alone during the break.
Shaw will report to the physio and spend time in the pool before completing a running program later this week.
The Daily Mail also claim that Smalling, who has a foot problem, has been given an injury-specific recovery regime at the Aon training complex in Carrington.
What’s most bizarre is how Mourinho has gone from praising Smalling for playing in the 4-0 defeat against Chelsea recently to slamming the England centre-back.
“He was phenomenal to play against Chelsea with such a difficult physical situation for him,” he said. “He couldn’t do it two days later against [Manchester] City. There was no chance.”
Mourinho of all people should know that playing with an injury is risky.
Eleven days separate the 53-year-old from November 19’s heavyweight clash against Arsenal – and more specifically, Arsene Wenger – at Old Trafford.
Victory over his old nemesis cannot be overstated if Mourinho and United still harbor ambitions of winning the Premier League this season.
