Former Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal has stopped the club from signing Paris Saint-Germain striker during his two-year reign at Old Trafford, according to Manchester Evening News’ Samuel Luckhurst.
The Dutch manager had taken over at Old Trafford in 2014 after an impressive spell with Netherlands national team but failed to live up to the expectations at the club as he eventually made way for Jose Mourinho this summer.
However, van Gaal has encouraged young talent and promoted a number of youngsters from academy to the first team which could prove vital for the club in the upcoming years.
van Gaal has made big money moves for the likes of Angel di Maria from Real Madrid, Ander Herrera and Memphis Depay during his time but have snubbed PSG star Edinson Cavani.

Depite opening the scoring for PSG, the Uruguayan has failed to convert a number of chances during their Champions League clash against Arsenal as the match ended at 1-1 and Luckhurst tweeted: “Cavani bottling it in a big game again. Van Gaal got little right at United but he was right to kill off interest in Cavani.”
However, he went for teenage sensation Anthony Martial to overcome the striker problems at the club and the youngster has enjoyed a successful spell under the Dutch manager.
The decision has also proved dividends as it has given Marcus Rashford a break into the first team as the 18-year old is now considered a major star for the future after his impressive form since breaking into the team last season under van Gaal.
New manager Jose Mourinho has gone in for Zlatan Ibrahimovic who is proving to be a deadly striker as the Swede has already scored four goals in his first four Premier League games. The decision prove vital as Manchester United now has a proven striker in Zlatan and two exciting strikers in the names of Martial and Rashford.
