Jose Mourinho’s spell with Manchester United is just getting worse with every passing game as he revealed that his players ignored his pre-match advice in the disappointing 2-1 defeat to Fenerbahce.
The match started disastrously for the English outfit when Fenerbahce striker Moussa Sow found the back of the net within 65 seconds with a world class overhead kick. Any hopes of making a comeback went up in smoke after Jeremain Lens doubled Fenerbahce’s lead with a brilliant curled free-kick just before the hour mark. United skipper Wayne Rooney scored a stunning consolation goal from 25 yards in the 89th minute but it was too late for a comeback as the hosts held on to register a memorable victory.
With this defeat,United are third in their group- one point behind leaders Feyenoord and Fenerbahce – with two games left and are in danger of Europa League elimination.
Meanwhile, Mourinho was absolutely furious with his players after another dismal performance. The Portuguese tactician, who saw his team demolish the Italian outfit by 4-1 last month, revealed that he had told his players not to be complacent but the players chose to ignore the advice.
The United manager said:”I am disappointed as I have quite a big experience of playing against Turkish teams.”
“I pass to the players all my experience, and my experience is that when you play against them at home it’s easy always – 2-0 or 4-0.
“You come to Turkey and it’s a completely different story.
“I told them to wait for that and not be focused on an easy game – be ready for completely different game but we started the game sleeping.”
