According to Daily Express, Turkish giants Besiktas have apparently placed an audacious bid for Arsenal’s star midfielder Mesut Ozil. Former board member for Besiktas, Erol Kaynar, claimed that Erdan Torunogullari, the club’s transfer chief, has held talks with Mesut Ozil’s agent.

Kaynar was quoted by the media: “Erdal [Torunogullari] met with Mesut Ozil’s representatives last week and made an enquiry.”

Mesut Ozil had joined Arsenal in the summer of 2013 from Real Madrid on the transfer deadline day for a club record transfer fee of £42.5million. After failing to make an impact in his debut season due to a series of injuries, the player came back strongly in the second season. Teaming up with Alexis Sanchez in the midfield who joined last summer, Ozil helped Arsenal to finish among the top 3 in the league after many years and also won a second consecutive FA Cup title.

Ozil is one of the most important players of Arsenal and at his pinnacle of his career it is highly unlikely that he will move to a league like the Turkish league.

Also, Arsenal have started spending since 2013 and they are looking forward to strengthening their squad. They have just started to taste success after a decade-long failure. In such a situation, Arsene Wenger would concentrate on buying more players than selling his stars.

Turkish clubs have stirred the transfer market this season. Another Turkish giant Fenerbahce have made two big signings this summer. They bought Nani and Robin van Persie from Manchester United.
