Shocking video: Former Chelsea star suffers horrific leg break, career could be over

Former Chelsea striker Demba Ba suffered a horrific leg break on Sunday when Shanghai Shenhua met arch rivals Shanghai SIPG FC in the China league.

The footage can be disturbing and we warn you to take caution before clicking play.

Ba , who has scored 20 goals in 29 games since moving to the Super League club in 2015, tangled with an opposing player when his left leg took the blow. It was certainly an innocuous challenge and was something seemingly out of nothing.

There was nothing malicious to the challenge but after a quick tangle of legs, Ba’s leg appears to turn in a different direction to his body as he falls to the ground.

The Senegalese frontman has become a firm favourite among fans and is the top goal scorer in the Chinese Super League so far.

The incident happened in the 72nd minute and the 31-year-old was immediately substituted for former Inter Milan ace Obafemi Martins.

Shenhua were losing 1-0 at the time, but Ba will be pleased to know his side managed to turn over the deficit and win the match 2-1.

but his campaign for this year will be over following such a shocking leg-break.

The full extent of the injury is yet to be known but it’s likely the player will be out of the game for at least the next six months.

Shenhua coach Gregorio Manzano said he feared for Ba’s career after the game following the incident.

“It could end his professional career,” he said. “I would rather lose the game than lose Ba.”

Chelsea, for whom he scored 14 goals in 51 appearances, wished their former player a speedy recovery.

The Premier League club tweeted: “All at Chelsea FC send our best wishes to former striker @dembabafoot. Get well soon Demba.”
