Shocking: Wenger made £80m Bid For Bundesliga Star Before Settling for Lucas Perez!

With yet another stalemate at the weekend against Tottenham Hotspur, Arsenal dropped a chance to go to the top of the table this weekend as they find themselves in the 4th place in the points table.
The Gunners have been prolific this season, scoring some superb goals and sweeping aside opponents in the domestic and European arena with the likes of Mesut Ozil, Alexis Sanchez, and Theo Walcott in decent form.
Though they have made a good start to the Premier League, Arsene Wenger’s summer business will be of some concern to the club.
Shkodran Mustafi and Granit Xhaka have adjusted the league well but one Lucas Perez has just not been able to impress the manager.
The former La Liga star was snapped by Wenger at the end of the transfer window but was nowhere close to his first choice in the summer transfer window.
The likes of Jamie Vardy, Riyad Mahrez, Mauro Icardi, Gonzalo Higuain and Alexandre Lacazette were all on the radar of the English outfit but Wenger was unable to get his hands on any of the big names.
Though the names show that Arsenal have failed to land quality stars one bizarre report today just made it even worse.
Wenger, who is not known for spending big in the transfer market, missed out on more than a couple of targets, as he did not want to meet the asking price which he felt was more than the norm.
However, reports today suggest that Wenger was ready to break the club record and made a big money bid for a European star that could turn the season around for the Gunners.
Italian agent Vincenzo Morabito has recently revealed that Arsene Wenger made an astonishing £80m bid for Borussia Dortmund striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.
With a striker high on the wishlist, Wenger seems to have identified the Gabon international as a proper addition to his squad and was ready to break the bank in the summer.
Speaking to Italian station Radio CRC, Vincenzo Morabito said, “Sometime ago, I called Zork, Dortmund’s director of football, to talk about Aubameyang [on behalf of Napoli], but the ‘no’ was absolutely categorical,” he said.
“I know that this summer, Arsenal offered €90m (£80m) for Aubameyang, but Borussia didn’t want to hear anything about it.”
It is also reported that the signing of Lucas Perez was a reaction to this snub from the German side and that Wenger was not too excited about his addition to the squad.
Aubameyang is easily one of the best strikers in the world at the moment and Wenger will know that he missed out on a star player who could have helped the Gunners take the next step.
Do you think Wenger was right in bidding such huge money for the Dortmund star?
