Sir Alex Ferguson reveals the BEST player he managed at Man United

Manchester United have had some incredible players in recent years – epitomized by the fact they dominated English football during the nineties.

The Red Devils won 13 out of a possible 20 league titles from 1993 until 2013 with legendary Scottish boss Sir Alex Ferguson guiding them to their success.

While they had a fantastic manager at the helm, Ferguson was able to call upon some world-class players to help him lift trophy after trophy.

But who was the best player Ferguson managed during his time at Old Trafford?

Well, the retired boss has revealed all.

“He [Ronaldo] was a fantastic player, he was the best,” Ferguson said when he was honored with the Walther Bensemann prize, which is awarded for outstanding work in football.

“We had fantastic players in [Paul] Scholes, [Ryan] Giggs, and [Eric] Cantona. We had some fantastic footballers, but Ronaldo was just something else.”

Ronaldo arrived in Manchester as a skinny 18-year-old for just over £12 million and there weren’t too many people who were convinced that he would go on to become of the greatest footballers of all-time.

But that’s exactly what happened.

He went on to score 118 goals at the Theatre of Dreams before securing a move to the Bernabeu – where he established himself among the best players in world football.

Many believe his six years at Old Trafford under the guidance of Ferguson made him the player he is today – something that Ferguson himself strongly denies.

“Ronaldo is a perfect example of someone who made himself. It’s easy for me to say, ‘yeah, I made Ronaldo,’” Ferguson added.

“Many coaches might say I made this player and I made that player, but Ronaldo made himself.

“We just gave him the tools and the platform to excel. His practice ethic was incredible.”

Ronaldo’s physique now compared to when he signed for United in 2003 is incredible. Ronaldo clearly looks after his body and, although he turns 32 in February, he still has plenty of years playing at the highest level.
