EPL Match Report- Manchester United 3-0 Liverpool
It was a game of missed chances for Liverpool, as Manchester United scored thrice to steer ten points away from their fiercest rivals. This game also ensured a sixth consecutive victory for Red Devils.
This fixture always brings a lot nerve wrecking moments for the players on the pitch and this match started a bit scattered with Liverpool looking like the aggressive team of the two in the initial few minutes of the game. Manchester United was coming on the back of five consecutive wins to this match and Liverpool came to Old Trafford on the back of Champions League exit. In the twelfth De Gea made a brilliant save and Manchester United moved with possession and a nutmeg from Valencia on Alen allowed Manchester United captain Wayne Rooney to score the first goal of the night. The goal settled few nerves and the crowd got right behind the home team. The two sides were sloppy in possession and there were a lot of misplaced passes. With a brilliant piece of individual skill Raheem Sterling came close to scoring an equalizer only for De Gea to push the ball out of danger. Ashley Young was probing Jorden Henderson and it paid off as his cross was headed into the goal by Juan Mata, however there was a suspicion of Offside against the Spaniard. In the closing minutes of the first half Liverpool tried to score their first goal of the match through a set piece however Manchester United defense stood solid and avoided conceding a goal.
A substitution was made by Brendan Rodgers at the start of the second half as Mario Balotelli came on for Adam Lallana. A terrible back pass from Johny Evans created a golden opportunity for Sterling to score and somehow De Gea stopped Liverpool from scoring their opening goal, similar to the first goal another chance came to Wayne Rooney immediately after Liverpool’s attempt however a tame finish meant no further damage was done to Liverpool. Out of nowhere Balotelli came close to scoring his first goal on return to be denied by a spectacular save by De Gea. With almost an quarter of an hour to play with Liverpool were pressing high to score, Mata regained possession and he moved ahead and passed the ball to Van Persie scored Manchester United’s third goal of the match. There were chances for Balotelli however the Spanish goalkeeper did deny Liverpool from scoring and ensuring a well deserved clean sheet. The match ended 3-0 as Manchester United went five points within second place Manchester City.

There were three different goal scorers for Manchester United however the clear favorite for the accolades was Manchester United’s brilliant goalkeeper David De Gea. With his acrobatic string of saves he is definitely one of the best goalkeepers in the world on current form.
