Spain win 3-0 over Sweden in the European qualifiers
Spain opened up a 5 point lead as they cruised past Sweden in Group F at home on Monday.
Luis Enrique gave Napoli’s Fabian Ruiz his debut for the Spanish National team. They also played a new midfield trio of Dani Parejo, Sergio Busquets and Fabian which looked pretty impressive. Sergio Ramos was partnered with Inigo Martinez at the back and Kepa replaced De Gea in the goal.
Sweden played Larrson, who won his 113th cap for the Swedish National team. The game was dominated by Spain from the beginning.
A long distance shot by Fabian which looked like going inside goal was stopped flying by Roma goalkeeper Olsen. In the 16th minute Rodrygo scored for Spain from a cross by Parejo, but Parejo was called offside by the linesman and the goal was cancelled.
The first half saw Olsen making some very important saves for Sweden, as Spain continued their fierce attacking.
Viktor Claesson got injured in a tussle with Jordi Alba and was substituted as he couldn’t continue. Alba received a yellow card for the same.
The first half was all about Spanish possession and attacks, as they racked up 12 shots as compared to Sweden’s 2.
The deadlock was broken early in the second half with Spain getting a penalty for a handball in the 64th minute. Sergio Ramos calmly converted it sending Olsen the wrong way and giving Spain the much deserved lead.
Alvaro Morata, the Spanish substitute was foul tackled in the Swedish box, for which they were once again awarded a penalty. Morata took responsibilty and scored the penalty making the score 2-0 in the 84th minute. 2 minutes later Mikel Oyarzabal, another Spanish substitute shot a wonderul left foot curler going inside the left corner of the net and extending their lead to 3-0.
Marcus Berg, Sweden’s lone striker didn’t receive good balls to attack, as the Spanish possession was a little less in the second half.
Euro 2020 qualifying resumes in September when Spain will visit Romania and Sweden travel to face the Faroe Islands.
