Spanish journalist reveals explosive details about De Gea saga
Emminent Spanish journalist Guillem Balague has recently written a column in Spanish daily AS where he revealed that Spanish international goalkeeper and Manchester United star David De Gea was very close to sign a contract extension with club in 2014 but due to manager Louis van Gaal’s presence De Gea did not sign it.
It is believed that Louis van Gaal was not fully convinced about the Spaniard’s abilities and he wanted someone like Keylor Navas at the club. Louis van Gaal doubted that player’s ability who turned out to be a superstar for the Red Devils last season. Irrespective of having a terrible backline Manchester United finished among the top four. De Gea has to be credited for such a brilliant performance as he single-handedly earned the team more than 10 point. Had it been not De Gea’s valour, the team might have once againt finished mid-table.
David De Gea has just a year left in his contract and the player refused to sign a contract extension at the end of last season. He was strongly linked with Real Madrid this summer and it was almost finalised that the player would leave for his hometown club. But the situation changed after United remained adamant on not letting the custodian go for a cheaper price.
Real Madrid sold club legend Iker Casillas and promoted Keylor Navas as the number one. They also bought Espanyol goalkeeper Kiko Casilla wo was very impressive. Navas’ promotion gave hints that De Gea’s departure might delat for another season.
But the surprise came when David De Gea was ommited from the United squad from the first two match day squad. Louis van Gaal had even said that the Spaniard is not willing to play for the club a few days back.
Had David De Gea signed a contract last year the goalkeeper would have earned a higher salary than what he would get at Real Madrid, as per Balgue’s report.
It will be interesting to see if at all the player stays at the club this season or leave for Real Madrid in late transfer window drama.
