Argentina superstar Lionel Messi is one of the most popular and successful footballers in the world. There are many who even consider him the greatest footballer of all time. Not many footballers have managed to achieve what Lionel Messi has on the field.

The former Barcelona forward has won the Ballon d’Or award a record 7 times in addition to winning every major trophy at the club and national level. Messi is also one of the most followed athletes on social media, with over 450 million followers on Instagram.

His huge popularity and achievements have made him one of the most recognizable figures in the world. But it looks like not everyone knows who Lionel Messi is. And comedian Susi Caramelo was one of them as she has revealed how she hilariously rejected the footballer’s request to party with him at his house because she failed to recognize who he was.

Susana Cabero, known by her stage name Susi Caramelo, is a prominent Spanish comedian, reporter, and presenter of the popular TV program Movistar. She has a good following online and has amassed over 528,000 Instagram followers.

During a recent episode of the show ‘Ilustres Ignorantes’ on Movistar, Susi Caramelo recounted an amusing encounter she had with Lionel Messi several years ago (as reported by Mundo Deportivo):

“Many years back, I was dating this guy, and one evening we decided to go to Catwalk in Barcelona. We found ourselves in the VIP area, and I excused myself to use the restroom. To my surprise, I stumbled upon a young boy, a girl, and an adult. They were discussing their plans, saying, ‘Well, Lionel, we’ll wait for you outside and figure out what to do.'”

“After finishing my business in the bathroom, I noticed the little boy sitting alone on a nearby couch. Being the friendly person I am, I struck up a conversation and jokingly asked, ‘Are you named Lionel? Like the pastries? Which flavor do you prefer: cream, whipped cream, or chocolate?’ And then, I left.”

Susi Caramelo continued her anecdote:

“As I stepped outside, I caught a glimpse of the same little boy who had been making funny faces and smiling at me. Suddenly, chaos ensued as we were being ushered out. While I was leaving, the guy I had encountered earlier approached me and asked, ‘What are you up to now?’ I replied, explaining that I was waiting outside for the person I arrived with, among other things.”

“As I finished my sentence and began descending the stairs, a crowd appeared, chanting, ‘Leo! Leo! Leo!’ They surrounded the young boy, and there I stood in a corner, pondering, ‘Who is this guy?’ Someone then informed me, ‘It’s Leo Messi, the world’s greatest football player.’ I exclaimed, ‘Don’t fu*k with me! I just told him I’m with someone else.'”

Despite her initial misunderstanding, Susi Caramelo went on to describe how she received an invitation:

“I had already reached the street where I had parked my car, and out of nowhere, Leo Messi approached me again and asked, ‘Are you coming to my house? We’re having a party, with friends and girls.’ Attending a footballer’s party is not an everyday occurrence, but do you know why I declined? I was so broke that if I had gone to that guy’s house, they probably wouldn’t have kicked me out even with a red card.”

Susi Caramelo concluded her story by mentioning that she had to turn down Lionel Messi’s invitation because she couldn’t afford the parking tickets that would have accumulated upon her return.
