Ten time European Champions Real Madrid are closing in on a deal to sign their target Manchester United’s goal keeper David De Gea after Los Blancos have agreed The Red Devils’ fee for their Spanish custodian.

As per the reports coming from the British media, the Spanish giants are ready to pay the £35 million transfer fee and could well finalize the deal in the first week of August when the team is scheduled to play in the Audi Cup in Munich.

De Gea, whose contract expires at Old Trafford next season looked certain to complete a move to Madrid earlier this summer when he turned down a new £200,000-per-week contract offer from his current team. It was when Manchester United roped in Sergio Ramos in the deal and prevented Real Madrid from signing De Gea.

With Ramos all set to get the contract extension he wanted at the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu, Real Madrid are pushing their case to land the goalie before the start of the season. Real Madrid’s first choice goalie for over a decade Iker Casillas has moved to FC Porto and with that, Real Madrid are made to content themselves with Costa Rica shot-stopper Keylor Navas and Espanyol’s Spanish keeper Kiko Casilla.

If this deal takes place, there would be a huge confusion over goal keeper’s situation at Real Madrid. Recently, Navas was given the number 1, which is usually worn by the team’s first choice keeper and it would be unfair to take a call on their new signing Casilla to accommodate De Gea, who is too good to be a second choice goalie. With over one month remaining for the transfer window to be closed, it would be interesting to see how this saga will get unfolded. If De Gea doesn’t leave United this summer, he would be available for free next year unless he signs a new contract with the Red Devils.
