Jose Mourinho and Manchester United have paired up to create one of the biggest ever corporate relation in football as both the manager and the club have managed to splash some serious cash in the transfer window.

Having spent more than £150m, the Red Devils were easily one of the biggest spenders in Europe in the summer transfer window.

The likes of Henrikh Mkhitaryan, Paul Pogba, and Eric Bailly were all expensive signings and though they have made the team a bit stronger, they price tags were not close to the norm.

The new TV deal that has seen millions and millions of dollars pushed into the Premier League along with a number of lucrative sponsorship deals including the richest sportswear deal in history. This has seen the Old Trafford outfit remove any caps on their spending in the summer.

This has resulted in Jose Mourinho accumulating the richest squad ever in the Premier League till date.

Paul Pogba in himself cost the club £89.3 million, $115 million to the club but he is just a part of the whole squad that is now the costliest in the league.

According to the CIES Football Observatory, Manchester United’s squad is worth £628 million, €718 million, $807 million and is the costliest squad to ever play for a single club in the history of the game.

It does not come as a surprise keeping in mind the number of star players that the club has managed to acquire in the past few seasons.

The likes of Anthony Martial, Morgan Schneiderlin, Ander Herrera, Marcos Rojo, Matteo Darmian and Juan Mata were all purchased with some big money and half of them are not even in the starting lineup for the team this season.

CIES Football Observatory spokesperson revealed that though there is a co-relation between the position in the points table and the cost of the squad, Leicester City’s heroics with one of the cheapest squads in the league has rewritten the norms in the Premier League.

“Generally speaking, the correlation between the squad cost and the final position in the domestic league table is very high. However, last season, Leicester City won the English Premier League title with the 17th costliest squad out of 20.”
