Lionel Messi was at his brilliant best with a hat-trick against Leganes on Saturday and Barcelona’s 3-1 victory also equaled the all-time LaLiga unbeaten record.
Barcelona have now gone 38 top-flight matches without defeat, levelling the previous best mark by Real Sociedad which has stood since 1980.
Messi made it six straight LaLiga games with a goal by netting a wonderful free-kick shortly before the half-hour mark, and then swiftly got his second of the night after being set up by Philippe Coutinho.
Keeping aside the team records, Barcelona’s Lionel Messi has set some amazing records after he scored yet another goal from a free kick.
He is the first player to score six direct free-kick goals in a single La Liga season since Ronaldinho in 2006-07 and he is also the first player to score from outside the box in six consecutive LaLiga games since at least 2003-04 (six goals).
Messi has also scored seven direct free-kick goals this season in all competitions and he is now arguably the best free kick taker in the world right now.
After the Madrid derby ended in a draw, Barcelona are now 11 points clear at the top of the table and its now only a matter of time when Messi and his men will lift the La Liga trophy.
