Stoke City 1-1 Chelsea (5-4 on Pen): Player ratings as manager Jose Mourinho nears a Sack
Chelsea seems to be sinking deeper and deeper in a hole this season. After an embarrassing defeat against West Ham, they were drawn against Stoke City away from home in the League Cup. Mourinho’s men took the game to extra time and then penalties before losing the spot kicks 5-4. They are now out of the League Cup.
Here are the player ratings for the game.
J Butland (3.5): Had a dream game as he made some crucial saves in normal and extra time. Also saved the crucial kick from Hazard that gave them the victory.
Muniesa (2.5): Had a decent game on the flank but picked up an injury and was forced off in the second half.
P Wollscheid (2.5): Was caught out of position once or twice but was excellent in extra time denying Chelsea any space.
R Shawcross (3): Was at the right place at the right time as he was able to read almost everything that Chelsea threw at him.
P Bardsley (2.5): Was doing well until he picked up a second yellow in extra time leaving his team short of a man for some time.
G Wheelan (2.5): Was too lazy in possession as he often gave the ball away. But was very good when defending.
C Adam (2.5): Did not provide a lot in attack but was sound defensively till the end of extra time.
I Affelay (2.5): Another of the Stoke players who hardly added to the attack but was very disciplined in his defensive duties.
J Walters (3.5): A great twist and shoot gave Stoke their opener and was full of energy troubling the Chelsea defense whenever he had the ball.
M Diouf (2.5): Was not bad up the pitch but was exceptional in the extra time period as he hurried the Chelsea players with his pressing.
M Arnautovic (3.5): An energetic display in normal time and was the man who relieved the pressure in extra time when they were down by a man.
M Wilson (2.5)
X Shaqiri (2.5)
P Odemwingie (2.5)
A Begovic(3): Rarely tested but produced a brilliant save from Walters.

Ramires (3): Did a key defensive job in midfield but fired wide when he had an open goal.
John Obi Mikel (2.5): His presence is needed on nights like this, but he didn’t always impose himself on the game.
Willian (3.5): Clattered by Shawcross early on but picked himself up to pose a threat down the right.
Oscar (3): Eager to impress after being recalled but was denied by a great fingertip save by Butland.
E Hazard (3.5): This was more like it from the Belgian, looking some way to back to his best.
D Costa (2.5): Took a buffeting; went off before half-time holding right side after a clash with Butland.
