Barcelona star Luis Suarez has once again paid his tribute to Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard with whom he spent more than three and a half seasons at Anfield.
Steven Gerrard made his 710th and final appearance for Liverpool against Stoke City in the final game of the season. He’ll be joining LA Galaxy in July after spending 27 years at the club, making more than 700 appearances, scoring 185 goals and winning 10 trophies at Anfield.
Suarez had kind words for his former captain during LFCTV’s ‘Gerrard: My Liverpool’ documentary. Suarez admitted it was his dream to play with Steven Gerrard and thinks he is one of the best ever.
“Not just on the pitch, but outside the dressing room he is one of the best because he is so kind,” said the Uruguayan.
“When he shouts, it’s because what he says is true. He’s one of the best because everybody knows he helped me a lot in my career.
“It was a dream for me [to play with Gerrard], because he is one of the best players in the world.
“I had watched him on TV and it was a dream to play with him at Liverpool. It was a pleasure to be on the pitch with Stevie.”
“Last season was brilliant .We tried our best to help Liverpool get back into the Champions League and also when we had a really good chance to win the Premier League it was for Stevie.
“Because he played in England for many years and never won the league – it’s a little strange.
“He needed to win it and when we lost the title, it was sad for us and for him. But I think it was one of the best years for Stevie as well.”
It is believed Suarez has always been close to Steven Gerrard and took his advice during his stay at Anfield. It was Gerrard who convinced Suarez to stay at Anfield when he rejected Arsenal in 2013. Suarez also took part in a charity match at Anfield organised by Steven Gerrard and Jamie Carragher. Steven Gerrard also previously admitted Luis Suarez as the “best player he has ever played with by a distance”.
