The January transfer window has barely slammed shut and talks about summer reinforcements are already in the air. Perhaps it is a chance for clubs to right the wrongs of January and move forward with a hope of tying up everything in the summer. Here we look at the possible summer signings for Chelsea.

  1.      RADAMEL FALCAO (AS Monaco)

    SUMMER SHOPPING: Chelsea 1

One of the most natural goalscorers around, Falcao would be a perfect fit for Jose Mourinho’s Chelsea. The Colombian’s transit into the lowly French league could be a precursor to the better things that await him. Chelsea need a lethal finisher more than most, having seen their three forwards misfire all season. He won’t come cheap though, and Romelu Lukaku could be added as a makeweight in what could be a bumper deal. Financial Fair Play regulations mean that Chelsea cannot overpay like the old days; they have to be prudent and wise to crack such a deal. Falcao would represent excellent value for money, given his immense goalscoring pedigree. Whether Roman Abramovich gives the go ahead will be the bigger question.

  2.      THIBAUT COURTOIS (Atletico de Madrid)

    SUMMER SHOPPING: Chelsea 2

Courtois is another of the myriad on-loan Chelsea players; and like most of those farmed out, has done exceptionally well. He was one of the most prominent goalkeepers of the past two seasons and f he continues his good form with La Liga pacesetters Atletico, the time when he usurps Petr Cech from the Chelsea goal isn’t too far. Courtois is young and experienced; he has been the flag-bearer for the exceptional Atletico side for the past two seasons. The best thing about Courtois and a Chelsea deal is that he is still their property. He is widely expected to rejoin his parent club at the end of the current season.

  3.      NEVEN SUBOTIC (Borussia Dortmund)

    SUMMER SHOPPING: Chelsea 3

It is no secret that John Terry is on an upward spiral in terms of age and subsequently his form and performance levels have taken a reverse turn. And add to that with Chelsea’s policy of not sticking around with oldies and we could soon see Terry head out of the Stamford Bridge gates this summer. And that means fresh defensive problems for Mourinho and co and he wouldn’t be reluctant to shell out big money for Serbian hotshot Neven Subotic who already had rejected a move to London in 2011. Three years on, Chelsea’s deep caverns of money might tempt Borussia Dortmund to part with their defensive lynchpin.
