The January transfer window has barely slammed shut and talks about summer reinforcements are already in the air. Perhaps it is a chance for clubs to right the wrongs of January and move forward with a hope of tying up everything in the summer. Here we look at the possible summer signings for Everton.

  1.      BAFETIMBI GOMIS (Lyon)

    SUMMER SHOPPING: Everton 1

A big battering ram of a striker, Bafetimbi Gomis will be a player on the move come summer. Gomis has endured a frustrating season at Lyon and Everton might well be his next destination after five years at the Stade Gerland. Everton have already sold Nikica Jelavic to Hull City in January and are currently without injured top-scorer Romelu Lukaku who is only on loan. As a permanent deal for Lukaku looks uncertain, Roberto Martinez would probably have to scour the market for a forward once Lukaku’s loan spell ends. Gomis was tracked by the club in January, and he firmly remains in their plans for summer. And the fact that he could be available for less than 10 million pounds would be good news for shoestring Everton.

  2.      GARETH BARRY (on loan at Everton from Manchester City)

    SUMMER SHOPPING: Everton 2

While doubts persist over Lukaku’s loan deal being made permanent, the Toffees can surely look forward to getting the hard-working Barry on a permanent deal from Manchester City. Barry has been vital in Everton’s impressive start to the season, and rather than looking at other midfield options, Roberto Martinez should prioritize signing Barry for the long haul. Without Barry, Everton wouldn’t have themselves in such an elevated league position now. The Englishman is the experienced leader on the pitch, and can inspire his team in troubled waters. A necessity, one without too much fuss.

  3.      NICKLAS MOISANDER (Ajax)

    SUMMER SHOPPING: Everton 3

Everton failed to sign a replacement as Johnny Heitinga left for Fulham on deadline day, and Roberto Martinez has set his sights on the experienced Nicklas Moisander of Ajax. The Finland captain was signed as a replacement for Jan Vertonghen and has produced impressive displays both domestically and continentally. And the fact that he comes with a relatively cheap price tag plays it into Everton’s hands. Moisander could be a valuable addition to partner club captain Phil Jagielka, as Sylvain Distin heads into his twilight.
