The January transfer window has barely slammed shut and talks about summer reinforcements are already in the air. Perhaps it is a chance for clubs to right the wrongs of January and move forward with a hope of tying up everything in the summer. Here we look at the possible summer signings for Manchester United.
- TONI KROOS (FC Bayern)
They might have bought Juan Mata, but his signing alone doesn’t brush away all the teething problems at Manchester United. Tom Cleverley is pedestrian at best, and they need a more dynamic and mobile midfielder to stop the rot. Toni Kroos has been at the center of a controversy in the recent past at Bayern. He was reportedly unhappy at being substituted, and that means salivating figures at various top European clubs. Kroos hasn’t exactly set the world alight at Bayern, playing second fiddle to the brilliant Bastian Schweinsteiger. Perhaps a move away to United would be beneficial to both parties, but he won’t be available on the cheap. His signing would be a massive statement of intent from David Moyes and United, who would love to bounce back big time after an underwhelming current season.
- FABIO COENTRAO (Real Madrid)
Quite why they would want to sell Coentrao is beyond me, but Real Madrid would pocket a nice sum of money if they could cash in on the appearance-starved Portuguese international. Coentrao has pace to burn, and given Patrice Evra’s travails of late, would go straight into the starting eleven. His tenacity and never-say-die attitude could make him a firm fan favorite, but how much United would be able to cough up is the bigger issue. Coentrao would definitely bolster David Moyes’ squad, and has that continental flavor about him; the flamboyance and the flair which is rarely seen in the typical British footballer.
- DIEGO COSTA (Atletico de Madrid)
As the murmurs of an unhappy Robin van Persie resurface again, United might just be on hand to strike a deal if things go terribly wrong with the Dutchman. Diego Costa’s name come around every other day linked with United; the strikers terrific current form make him one of the most feared marksman in the world. Whether he would like to swap high-flying Atletico for struggling United is the question here, but you could never rule anything out in football. United would have to shell out much more than what they paid for Mata to prize the coveted Costa, but Financial Fair Play could have a huge saying here.
