Zlatan Ibrahimovic masterminded Manchester United’s 2-0 win over West Brom with a fine brace.
The Swede opened the scoring after just five minutes, latching onto a superb cross from Jesse Lingard and heading into the back of the net.
By the 56th minute, he had doubled the visitors’ lead and taken his own tally for the season to 16 goals in all competitions.
It’s quite remarkable to think that only a matter of weeks ago, it was being suggested in some quarters that Ibra was past it. A run of just one goal in 11 games did cast doubt on whether he was finding it tough in the Premier League.
Yet, that all seems a long time ago now. Jose Mourinho admits he would like to rest the 35-year-old, but he can’t afford to as United are so reliant on his goals.
The forward’s double against West Brom was just the latest reminder of how crucial he is to the Red Devils’ attack, especially as Marcus Rashford isn’t exactly scoring for fun.
If Mourinho even considered resting him before, he might be thinking again this evening, especially if he hears of one stat that sums up Ibra’s class.
Two @Ibra_official goals take his tally for 2016 to 48 – only Messi and Ronaldo have more for club and country this year @ManUtd https://t.co/qBHX7dtvB1

Messi has got himself on the scoresheet 58 times for club and country in 2016, while Ronaldo’s scored just the 52.
Any player who is anywhere near Messi and Ronaldo in any category is doing well, but to almost match them for goals is pretty special – and at the age of 35, it’s quite incredible.
There can be no denying anymore that Ibra’s been a massive hit at Old Trafford, but of course, most of his goals this calendar year came while he was still with Paris Saint-Germain.
Across the 2015/2016 season, he scored 38 goals in Ligue 1 alone as he helped PSG to the title, and while that might not be in the world’s strongest league, he doesn’t seem to be having too many problems in the Premier League either.
