Swansea City vs Arsenal: Preview, Predicted Lineups, Betting Odds and Predictions

After the dramatic comeback at the Dean Court against the Cherries earlier this month that saw the Gunners slip out of the top-4 in the points table, Arsene Wenger’s Arsenal, will travel to the Liberty Stadium this weekend to take on a Swansea side that is currently struggling at the 19th place in the points table, just a point off safety. Paul Clement, the new manager of the Swans, won his first game in England as his side beat Crystal Palace in the first game of the New Year to give themselves a chance of survival. Playing in front of their home crowd, the Swans are expected to make life as hard as possible for the Arsenal side, that is currently struggling for form. Here is the preview of this game, along with the team news, predicted lineups, predictions and betting odds:

The League game between Swansea and Arsenal will be played on Saturday, the 14th of January at the Liberty Stadium in Swansea City. The kickoff is scheduled at 3:00 pm BST (8:30 pm IST)

Team News:

Swansea are missing the likes of Jefferson Montero and Neil Taylor for this game against Arsenal. Modou Barrow is back in training and might play a role in this game from the bench.

Expected lineup (4-3-3):

Fabianski; Naughton, Fernandez, Mawson, Taylor; Fulton, Ki, Cork; Routledge, Llorente, Sigurdsson

Arsene Wenger is still without the services of Santi Cazorla, Per Mertesacker, Francis Coquelin and Yaya Sanogo for this game. Mesut Ozil, Hector Bellerin and Kieran Gibbs are all expected to be back in action this week while Mathieu Debuchy is also expected to be fit for this game.

Expected lineup (4-2-3-1):

Cech; Bellerin, Koscielny, Mustafi, Monreal; Xhaka, Ramsey; Iwobi, Ozil, Sanchez; Giroud

Key Battles:

Fernando Llorente vs Laurent Koscielny:

Currently, in some fine goal scoring form, Llorente, is expected to lead the attack for Swansea on the night and he will be up against one of the best defenders in the league in Koscielny. The French defender has been solid at the back this season for the Gunners and is expected to help them keep the Spanish striker from Swansea away from goal.

Alexis Sanchez vs Kyle Naughton:

Though at his best as a false-9 this season, Alexis Sanchez, is also adept at creating chances for his side from the wing and will be a big threat in front of goal for the Swans in this game. He will have to be closely monitored by Kyle Naughton on the night as the home side cannot afford to give the Chilean any space or time on the ball.

Key Stats:

Swansea have lost three of their last four home matches against Arsenal in the Premier League (W1).

The Gunners have never failed to score in five previous Premier League games at the Liberty Stadium (10 goals, two per game on average).

Swansea have won just 15 points from their 20 games this season; their worst return at this stage of a Premier League season. 71% of the teams with 15 points of fewer after 20 PL games were relegated (25/35).

After a run of 12 away games without a defeat, Arsenal are winless in their last three on the road in the top-flight (D1 L2).

The Gunners have conceded in each of their last six Premier League away matches; their longest run without a clean sheet since May 2011 (7 games).

Olivier Giroud has scored 12 goals from his last 17 shots on target in all competitions.

French striker Giroud has scored in each of his last eight starts for Arsenal in all competitions, netting 10 goals in total.

Alexis Sanchez has scored or assisted 30 goals in his last 31 Premier League appearances (20 goals, 10 assists).

Swansea have lost 12 of the 14 Premier League games this season in which they conceded the first goal (W1 D1).

No side has netted the opening goal in more PL matches this season than Arsenal (14), although they’ve lost three of those games – only Southampton (4) have more defeats.

Betting Odds:

Swansea City: 23/4

Draw: 7/2

Arsenal: 23/50

Predictions:

The Gunners have not been at their best in the last few games but they are expected to make light work of the Swansea side this weekend. However, Clement, who won his first game as a manager at the club in the previous round will have his team set up to frustrate the visitors which might help them to a point.

Our prediction: Swansea 0-0 Arsenal
