The new season of the Barclays Premier League has already seen some unpredicted results as the teams look to get used to the challenges of the new season. The 2nd Match day of the league was an interesting one with certain teams desperate to get off the mark on the points table and some to make sure they stay at the top. The fixtures were intriguing and games were tough. But there were players who came out on top and helped their team put up a strong performance.
In this article, we bring you the team of the week with players who have excelled for their team in their positions.
Tim Howard (GK) Everton: Everton’s much improved performance against the Saints started with a great save from Tim Howard who looked at the top of his game as he bossed his penalty area with a tinge of supremacy. He was commanding in the air and never let any Southampton player win a close ball in the air.
Nathaniel Clyne (RB) Liverpool: On his home debut, Clyne looked a bit shaky in the beginning of the game against Bournemouth. But as the game progressed, he looked at ease with the ball at his feet and was also solid with his defensive duties.
Vincent Kompany (CB) Manchester City: The Manchester City captain had an outstanding game in defense against the Champions of England. He kept Costa at bay all throughout the game and was at his best reading the game.
John Stones (CB) Everton: Stones who is a transfer target for Chelsea put in an assured performance at the back for Everton. He was calm and measured and dominated the defensive half of the clubs game.
Aleksander Kolarov (LB) Manchester City: Kolarov was a live wire all throughout the game for the Citizens and helped them thrash Chelsea 3-0 at the Etihad. He made Ivanovic work overtime on his flank and was astute in his defensive duties.
Mesut Ozil (CM) Arsenal: Ozil was in sizzling form on Sunday as he tormented the Crystal Palace defense almost single handedly. His touch and skill were too much to handle for the home team. He also provided the ball for Giroud’s early stunner.
Yaya Toure (CM) Manchester City: Toure’s performance against Chelsea was not his best but still makes the team of the week. He constantly produced the right ball out of defense to release pressure and was always available when needed in attack. He could not add to his tally of 2 goals but played a brilliant game.
Ross Barkley (AM) Everton: The Everton Mid-fielder seemed to find space everywhere on the park against the Saints. He was crisp with his moment and he was a great asset for the club in their counter attacks. He also grabbed a goal at the weekend.
David Silva (AM) Manchester City: The Spaniard shredded the Chelsea defense into pieces in the first half of the game. He was smart and quick in front of goal and made life very difficult for the Chelsea center backs. He showed great confidence on the ball and paved way to a 3-0 thumping.
Sergio Aguero (ST) Manchester City: It was said that the Argentine was not fully fit for the clash against Chelsea. But he was sharp and tortured the best defense from the previous year. His composed finish after missing a one on one showed the quality he has and he can only get better as he gets fitter.
Romelu Lukaku (ST) Everton: The £28 million striker showed his worth with a complete performance against Southampton. He was quick, strong and full of confidence as he tore apart the Southampton defense on a number of occasions. He also scored two goals in the 3-0 victory against the Saints.
