Teammate Reveals Why Ozil Is Called ‘The Boss’ In Arsenal Dressing Room 1

Alex Iwobi has burst onto Arsenal’s first team picture this season, especially earlier this week on Tuesday when he scored his first ever goal in the Champions League against Basel.

The 20-year-old was only playing football in the under-19s a year ago, and could now be more featured in the Gunners’ first team thanks to recent performances.

Star players Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil have helped Iwobi with his progression on the first team, and the Nigerian international explained in a recent interview with The Guardian, via the Daily Mail, how the two have been his mentors since he made the step up.

He said: “I have to call him (Ozil) ‘my boss’ because he assisted me. Alexis likes to take the mick out of me when I don’t score in training. They are funny.”

“They will tell you what you need to work on but in a jokey kind of way. They do advise me, saying I just need to compose myself, relax and the chances will come. They try to help in the best way they can.”

Ozil assisted Iwobi with his first Champions League goal earlier this week, who collected the ball from a Sanchez pass before sending it to the 20-year-old to tap in.

The youngster has ambitions of being as big as some of Arsenal’s most famous players, as he wants to win trophies just like they did and be featured forever in the club’s history.

He said: “Some of the players Arsenal used to have were scary. But even now the quality we have now, this season could be our season. It is wide open.

“I walk past the corridors and see all the pictures of players holding a trophy and celebrating but my face is not there. I want to be there. Hopefully one day my face will be on the wall celebrating too. That would be amazing.”
