After a crushing 3-0 defeat against Liverpool in the first leg of the Champions League, Manchester City captain Vincent Kompany informs his side’s full concentration will be on the second leg and he will be happy to put Premier League celebrations on hold because of it.
City, who are 16 points clear at the top will be up against their city rivals Manchester United on Saturday at the Etihad stadium and if they manage to beat United, they will have the glorious opportunity to celebrate the league win in front of their home crowd and not to mention, in front of their rivals too.
But Kompany has made it clear that he is ready to sacrifice the league celebrations this week to concentrate on the quarter-final of the Champions League where they are trailing by 3-0.
“We’ve got one chance to do it in the Champions League. In the Premier League we’ve got plenty of opportunities to do the job. We’ll make it [the Premier League] a priority now for the next three days. It’s never been like this. You play the league and usually go on holiday but this one feels completely different,” Kompany said.
“Whatever happens on Saturday we will take the game extremely seriously, we know how important it [the Champions League] is for our fans but after that we will go back to this unfinished business we have got here,” he added.
The Manchester City captain has also gave a strong statement and he is optimistic enough that his side can turn it around in the second leg.
“There’s not one single person at Manchester City who believes this game is over. Not one person. We have to live with the consequences of this result but that’s what makes football special.”
“We had a very short period of time in this game where everything went wrong but the same can happen in the next game for the opposition. That’s what keeps us believing we can create chances,” Kompany concluded.
The start of the new week can be a week to never forget for the City fans if they manage to win both the league and the second leg of the Champions League.
