Things to look forward to in the Barclays Premier League this weekend
Another set of Premier League matches are set to entertain the world this weekend and as the business end is almost upon us, it promises to be a thrilling ride over the weekend.
From Leicester’s battle at the top to Villa resurgence at the bottom, there are plenty of talking points from this weekend. Here are 10 things to look forward to in the 27th round of fixtures in the Premier League:
1. Can the Black Cats get out of the drop zone?
The Hammers welcome Sunderland this weekend and a victory would move them to the 5th place at the end of the week but it will be the visitors who will be fighting for every point on offer. They are at the 19th place just a point away from safety and a positive result in this game might see them move clear of the relegation zone. It will however not be easy to beat Bilic’s side away from home.
2. Villa’s tough trip to the Britannia:
Aston Villa need all the points they can get in the last 10 games of this season as they find themselves at the bottom of the table at the moment. They have just 16 points, 8 away from safety and a trip away to Stoke is not a game they will want to play. They will need to get something from this game to keep the chances of their survival alive this season.
3. Can the Cherries steer away from relegation?
Eddie Howe’s side started this campaign really well but have just not been able to stay consistent. They are just 4 points away from the relegation zone and will need some results quickly. They face the Hornets this weekend in a game that hardly represents anything for the home side. Can the Cherries move up the table this weekend?
4. Can the Saints stop Chelsea’s 10 game streak?
Chelsea are now un-beaten in their last 10 games in the league and have scored 10 goals in the last two home games. However, a trip to St Marys with the Saints trying for a Champions League finish is not going to be easy for the Blues and they will have to stay on top of their game to get anything from this fixture.
5. Can Leicester improve on their lead?
The Foxes are just two points clear of Tottenham Hotspur going into this game and will need all three points to make sure that they stay there after the end of the weekend. They will host the Canaries who themselves need a result to stay away from the relegation zone. This is a mismatch between two teams with different aspirations for the season.
6. Clash of the equals:
The Baggies welcome Crystal Palace this weekend in the EPL in a mid-table battle between two teams that are closely matched. Both teams have 32 points on the board after 26 games and are so evenly matched that this game might just turn out to be the match of the week.
7. Can the Spurs move close the gap?
The Lilly whites will host Swansea City this weekend in an important game for Pochettino’s men in their quest to the title this season. A loss in this game can easily see them fall down the pecking order but their form recently should be enough to get over the Irish outfit this weekend.
8. Can LVG bounce back?
Manchester United, fresh from a loss at Sunderland will host the Gunners in a crunch game this weekend in the Premier League. Arsenal need a victory to keep their hopes of the title alive while United will need to get a positive result if the manager wants to stay in the post atleast till the end of the season.
