Manchester United could turn to Paul Pogba in an attempt to lure Antoine Griezmann from Atletico Madrid.
The Daily Record has claimed that the two Frenchmen are close friends and Pogba could be key to a deal for the exciting attacker. The duo have both represented their county at the 2014 World Cup and in last summer’s run to the final of Euro 2016 on home turf. Pogba holds Griezmann in high regard and has always spoken highly of him.
“He’s my brother, we’re always together. When you’re feeling good away from the pitch it’s easier for you on the pitch, and that’s what’s happening with the France team.” Pogba told in a recent interview.
Griezmann, who has been in Madrid since 2014, began his career with Real Sociedad in 2009 and has quickly become one of the most coveted strikers in world football. Capable of playing out wide or through the middle, Griezmann would be a perfect fit for United who have been consistently linked with the Frenchman throughout the transfer window.
The 25-year-old has scored an impressive 52 goals in 92 league games for Atletico, and with Memphis Depay leaving for Lyon the famous number 7 United shirt, a number that Griezman currently wears for club and country, is available.
Although United have made improvements this season, they have still lack dept up front. Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Wayne Rooney are into their thirties and Marcus Rashford has been used mainly on the wing this season. Griezmann would present a prolific and instinctive finisher and at only 25 has a long career ahead of him.
With Atletico into the round of 16 in the Champions League, a move in this transfer window would be unlikely. However, this could give good pals Griezmann and Pogba some time to mull things over and discuss the possibilities of forming an exciting attacking prospect at Old Trafford.
