This Manchester United star is sick of losing to Man City and wants the run to end
Manchester City have won the last 4 Manchester Derbies in a row, a stat which is baffling the Manchester United winger Ashley Young.
The former Aston Villa man joined the red side of Manchester in the year 2011 and since then has enjoyed just 1 derby success when Robin Van Persie’s late free kick settled the score.
Since that day, United have lost 4 derbies in a row (2-1, 4-1, 3-0, 1-0). Ashley Young was speaking to the Telegraph when he pointed out the importance of this particular fixture for the United fans. Young vowed to end the sequence of defeat to City and “Put things right” in the upcoming Derby clash.
Young said: “Obviously, you want to put it right, that’s the first time I have heard that they have won the last four.
“We just want to keep the momentum we have shown, and the good positive play we have shown, especially in the last few games.
Ashley Young highlighted United’s recent run of good wins and good performances which has seen the belief return to Old Trafford and fans are optimistic going in to the game. United have gone out and won crucial games against Tottenham and Liverpool in recent weeks to cement their top 4 place.
Ashley Young was quick to highlight City’s recent slip in form and how it feels to be going in the Derby being 1 place above Man City. Young said: “The derby is a big one again – it will be another massive game.
“We know it will be tough but as long as we can play the way we have shown, especially in the last few games, hopefully we will get the three points.”
Manchester United will go in to the game feeling confident after their recent wins in crucial fixtures and with the return to training for Robin Van Persie will add extra goal threat to United’s play this Sunday in one of the most crucial Manchester Derbies of all time.
