Every year Forbes has it’s a highest-paid actress, their richest businessmen and they even make a list of the highest-paid athletes.
Being a world-class athlete is a dream for everyone. Apart from the name an athlete gets, it cannot be denied that the best among the lot becomes the Highest paid athletes too.
Golfer Tiger Woods led the pack of the Top 10 highest-paid athletes in 2013 with Roger Federer of Tennis following him at 2nd place. Basketball star Lebron James has surpassed LA Lakers star, Kobe Bryant. Real Madrid and Portugal star Cristiano Ronaldo make the biggest jump on the list from last year to jump into the 2nd place this year. Lots of new entries from the previous year’s list with the likes of David Beckham retiring from the game earlier this year.
Here is the list of the Top 10 highest-paid athletes of 2014 as per the report from Forbes –
1. Floyd Mayweather :
His total earning during the 2014 period is $105 million and all have come as a result of the salary of match fees, i.e professional career and nothing has come due to endorsements. He is the only athlete apart from Tiger Woods to have crossed $100 million marks in a calendar year recognised by Forbes make it at the top spot in the list of the Top 10 highest-paid athletes in 2014.
Cristiano Ronaldo’s total earning in 2014 is $80 million. Out of which $52 million have come as a result of salary or awards and $28 million have come as a result of endorsements making him the 2nd highest-paid athlete in 2014.
3. LeBron James:
3rd on the list of highest-paid athletes of 2014 is LeBron James, the NBA star. His total earning during this period is $72.3 million. Unlike Mayweather and Ronaldo, LeBron has earned most part of his earnings by endorsements, due to his deals with McDonald’s, Coca Cola, Nike and others. His earning through endorsements was $53 million.
4. Lionel Messi:
One of the highest-paid athletes of South America is Lionel Messi. The star footballer from Argentina stands 4th on this list with his total earnings being $64.7 million and the earning through salary and awards is $41.7 million and $23 million through endorsements.
5. Kobe Bryant :
The LA Lakers star, Kobe Bryant has a total earning of $61.5 million in 2014 which includes $31 million through endorsements and rest of the $30.5 million through salary and awards. Only Lebron James surpasses Kobe in the list of the Highest-Paid athletes in basketball.
6. Tiger Woods:
Though not at his peak and very low considering the standards he has set for himself, the golf superstar is placed 6th and most of his earnings are through endorsements. His income during this period is $61.2 million, out of which $55 million have come from endorsements. End of his relationship with EA sports did cause him.
7. Roger Federer:
The Swiss tennis star is placed 7th on the list of the highest-paid athletes in 2014 with a total income during 2014 is in the region of $56.2 million. Out of this, $52 million have come from endorsements and rest through salary and awards, which have gone down.
8. Phil Mickelson:
The American Big Phil ranks behind Tiger Woods as the highest-paid golfer with a total earning of around $53.2 million. Out of which, $48 million have come out of endorsements and just $5.2 million have come from salary and awards.
9. Rafael Nadal:
Undoubtedly a modern legend, his earnings are far less than his game standard compared to Federer. His total earning in this period is $44.5 million, out of which $30 million have come from endorsements and rest $14.5 million from salary and awards.
10. Matt Ryan:
The Atlanta Falcons quarterback Matt Ryan has a total earning in 2014 of $43.8 million out of which $42 million have come from salary and awards and only $1.8 million have come from endorsements making him the highest-paid American Football athlete and getting him the final spot in the list of highest-paid athletes in 2014.
