Top five replacement of departed coach Roberto Martinez. 1
Everton sacked Roberto Martinez and looking for his possible replacement.

Roberto Martinez’s Everton gave up the resistance on Wednesday night for the second time in a week. This time, it was, a 3-0 defeat by a relegation threatened team, Sunderland.

In their last 10 matches, ‘The Toffees’ have lost six games and won just one, in all competitions.

The former Wigan coach, Martinez, has been sacked before Sunday’s game against Norwich.

So, the question arises, who are the candidates competing to replace him at Goodison Park?

Here are some of them from the list:

  1. Joachim Low

          Odds: 33-1

Trophies won as a manager: FIFA World Cup, DFB Pokal, Austrian Bundesliga, Austrian Supercup.

The 56-year-old paved the way for Germany to World Cup success in 2014. He could quit his post after this European Championships.

Mirror Football recently revealed Löw would consider the Everton job should he step down from the national side, as long as there was money to spend.

New owner Farhad Moshiri would likely trust a manager with impressive international history, and while Löw’s domestic record is far from outstanding Moshiri is all set to bankroll Everton to the tune of £200million.

Though bookies have made Löw a 33-1 outsider, but in reality, Low to Everton is a non-starter.

  1. Rafa Benitez

           Odds: 6-1

Trophies won as a manager: Champions League, Europa League (x2), FIFA World Club Cup, UEFA Supercup, La Liga (x2), FA Cup, Community Shield, Coppa Italia, Suppercoppa Italiana (x2).

As Benitez was linked with Liverpool previously, he would certainly be a controversial choice and potentially an unpopular one with Everton fans.

But it is undeniable that Benitez is the perfect one for the role. He had proved himself before in the Premier League and in Europe, alongside he knows Everton well.

Benitez would certainly be able to work with the current squad with no problems, despite the fact that Martinez and Benitez do not share the same playing technique.

  1. Manuel Pellegrini

           Odds: 7-2

Trophies won as a manager: Premier League, League Cup (x2), Intertoto Cup, Argentine Primera Division (x2), Copa Mercosur, Ecuadorian Serie A, Copa Chile, Copa Interamericana.

Pellegrini is leaving Etihad this season and has offers from Spain. Although, his first choice would be to stay in England. There is only one realistic option for him.

Everton is the only looking to change their manager this summer, of the Premier League’s larger sides.

Pellegrini showed, when he was at Malaga, that he can archive impressive results while he is managing slightly smaller sides. He also brings considerable Premier League experience with Manchester City.

  1. Mark Hughes

           Odds: 3-1

Trophies won as a manager: None.

Hughes has proven at Blackburn and Stoke that he knows how to build a team, how to spend money wisely to get a team which plays effective football.Though, Hughes has enjoyed a far less glamorous managerial career than the other candidates.

It could be hard for Hughes to take Stoke further than he has already. The new challenge looks likely for the former Manchester United striker.

An ambitious manager who doesn’t represent a risk in any way. It is possible, Everton would represent a step up for him.

He had an unusual managerial trajectory that dropped him from Man City to QPR in less than three years. Hughes deserves a second chance with a big club as he has proven himself all over again.

  1. Frank de boer

           Odds: 4-6

Trophies won as a manager: Eredivisie (x4), Johan Cruyff Shield.

De Boer is the most favorite one to take over Goodison Park, who has quit his post at Ajax. The 45-year-old has already experienced considerable success as a coach and manager.

He was Holland’s assistant coach in 2010 when they reached the World Cup final and has won the league four times out of his six seasons at his former club Ajax.

De Boer is known as an excellent tactician. He has been schooled at both Ajax and Barcelona.
