At number seven in the list of Top Ten Football Players in the World at the Moment is Luka Modric.
Luka Modric is arguably the best midfield player in the world at the moment, and if anyone doubted it, he must have changed his perception after his exploits in the FIFA World Cup 2018 in Russia.
Croatia’s stunning run to their first World Cup final was inspired by the form of their captain Luka Modric.
Not surprisingly, he won the Golden Ball for best player of the tournament. Modric scored two goals in the group stage and converted both of his attempts in penalty shootouts to help Croatia reach the final for the first time.
Before that, Modric had excelled for Real Marid, helping them win a third Champions League in a row, each time getting elected to the squad of the season.
Modric’s passing accuracy last season was at 90 per cent in all competitions, higher than the likes of Kevin De Bruyne (83), David Silva (89) and Paul Pogba (85).
He was also equally impressive with the defensive duties. The Croatia international won 185 duels last season. When it comes to interceptions, he managed 55 for Madrid in 2017-18, 12 more than nearest competitor Kevin De Bruyne and far above David Silva Silva and Paul Pogba (26).
Modric duly got rewarded for his stunning show in the midfield in the last few years. In 2016, he won the La Liga Award for “Best Midfielder” and UEFA Club Football Award for “Best Midfielder” the following year.
In 2015, Luka became the first Croatian player ever to be included in the FIFA World XI, in which he was included once again in 2016 and 2017, as well in the UEFA Team of the Year in 2016 and 2017.
Luka Modric has been named the Croatian Footballer of the Year six times, tied with Davor Šuker for most wins.
