According to the German media outlets, Liverpool are still chasing for the signature of Borussia Monchengladbach midfielder Mahmoud Dahoud.
But, the reports from The Bild claim that Jurgen Klopp’s side have to face tough competition from Borussia Dortmund.
It is believed that Borussia Dortmund are considering the 20-year-old Dahoud as the potential replacement for Ilkay Gundogan, who has left Westfalenstadium for Manchester City in June.
However, the same sources claim that Dahoud could instead be about to follow Gundogan to the Premier League. With Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp is understood to be ready to launch an offer around £25m for the Gladbach star.
The Germany U-21 international has struggled to hit the ground running after a hugely impressive season last year. Dahoud has made 12 appearances in all competitions this season, failing to score in the process.
Jurgen Klopp will find it difficult to get the signature of Dahoud in January after the German club’s sporting director Max Eberl ruled out a winter switch for the player.
During his interview with the Kicker, Eberl said: “There is a zero percent chance that Mahmoud will leave in January. There is no offer for him on the table from any club and we have not had any offers for him in the past either.”
Of the current Liverpool squad, the exciting Bundesliga midfielder’s technical traits would be most similar to Adam Lallana’s, although he plays from deeper. Although he uses his body cleverly to manipulate space, turns his way out of trouble and is happy to take a player on with skill and trickery rather than pace. As well as this comfort on the ball, Dahoud can pick a pass, too.
Dahoud’s weaknesses is he sometimes doesn’t realise where he is on the football field and makes poor decisions which put his team in trouble. In terms of his ability and attributes, he’s outstanding, but sometimes his maturity and decision making lets him down. Aged 20 though, he has plenty of time on his hands to mould his talent.
