It was certainly not the biggest transfer window of Arsenal but there were big money signings. And talking about Arsenal’s big money signings, the first name attracts everyone is Alexis Sanchez all the way from Barcelona. Alexis Sanchez has been a superb squad member for his former sides and he has been one of the most impressive players of the most impressive players of World Cup. Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger did not hesitate to splash a fee of £30 million for Chilean goal machine.
Not to forget Alexis Sanchez snubbed the premier League Runners Liverpool. Brendon Rodgers, the manager of Liverpool wanted Sanchez as a part of the Luis Suarez deal. Barcelona had no problem to send Sanchez to Liverpool but Sanchez declined to move to Liverpool and he clearly stated that he wanted play in London. He signed for Arsenal and in his first three games of the new campaign, he looked really impressive. He scored in the last game against Leicester City but he could not provide the victory for his team.
Another transfer buy that shocked the world was Danny Welbeck all the way from Arsenal’s bitter rivals Manchester United for a fee of £16 million. Arsenal was in serious need of a striker but could Welbeck be the man? He had been really poor since last season. We do not think it was a wise idea to spend such a big amout of fee for the English International.
Arsenal’s other buys were good as well. Callum Chambers is a good signing but many football pundits are claiming that the fee that was given for Chamber was too much. Chambers has been a superb player for his former side, but his transfer fee indeed raised a lot of questions. Mathew Debuchy from Newcastle united has been an excellent signing. He has been quite impressive in the start of the campaign for his new club. Arsenal also signed David Ospina for a fee of £3 million. It has really been a cheap buy by the class of Ospina.
About the players that Arsenal sold, one name comes in mind before anyone is Thomas Varmalaelen. The twenty eight year Belgian centre back has always been a good member of Arsenal squad. But the biggest problem of Vermalaelen was his injury, so we have to say that Arsenal got a good transfer fee of this defender.
Overall, it was a good transfer window for Arsenal. We cannot say if it was one of the biggest because the critics frowned in case of some of the transfers. This season’s progress will show how good this window for Arsenal.
