Transfer story of the day: Manchester United linked with Liverpool’s Joe Allen
Jurgen Klopp has already added a number of players to his squad from the previous season and is looking to go into the season as a stronger team.
However, he will have to let go off a number of top class talents to shape the squad and leave players who do not fit his style of play. The likes of Christian Benteke and Martin Skrtel (who has already left the club), are deemed excess to requirement at Anfield next season.
However, one player who is unsettled at the club and could make a move is Welsh international Joe Allen. The 26-year old was one of the most influential players for the Wales side that went into the semi-finals of the EUROs recently.
However, with the likes of Emre Can, Marko Grujic, Jordan Henderson and James Milner expected to play a similar role in the first team, Allen may not be a regular starter for the side next season. This has seen him linked with a move to a number of clubs including Swansea, West Ham, Sevilla, and Stoke.
Though no official move has been made yet by any side, a surprising contender for his signature came up from nowhere.
According to a report from the Guardian, Liverpool’s arch rivals Manchester United want to move for the Welsh international this summer.
Jose Mourinho is still in search for a top class central midfielder and is eyeing the likes of Paul Pogba from Juventus and Cesc Fabregas from Chelsea. Joe Allen, though is not at that level yet, has shown his potential at the end of the last season and also with Wales in their EURO campaign and has now attracted interests from the Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho.
Phil Chisnall’s £25,000 move to Anfield from Old Trafford in 1962 was the last time a deal happened between the two clubs and if Allen does end up making the move, he will be a villain for the Kop forever.
The Liverpool manager revealed earlier that he will have to sort out his contract situation quickly and with rumors like these making the papers, the manager will hope to come to a decision as quickly as possible.
His market value is around £15m which might go up after his performances in the EUROs but it is hard to see a deal struck between the two clubs this summer.
Mourinho is desperate for an established midfielder but he will have to search elsewhere as no one from Anfield is going to Old Trafford.
Do you think Joe Allen will move to Manchester United this summer?
