Chelsea have reportedly made a £2.8 million bid for Red Star Belgrade’s highly rated 19-year-old midfielder Marko Grujic, as per Gazzetta dello Sport (via the Daily Star).

The young midfielder is also a target for rivals Manchester United but with Chelsea frontrunners for his signature, Louis van Gaal might have to be disappointed in his pursuit.

Daily Star also claims that there are many options right now for the talented midfield man as French champions Paris Saint-Germain and Italian giants Inter Milan are also monitoring the situation of the Serbian wonder-kid.

Chelsea’s connections with Serbian players are no secret as the Serbian captain Branislav Ivanovic and defensive Midfielder Nemanja Matic might attract the youngster to move to Stamford Bridge.

6ft 3in Grujic, who signed a new three-year deal with Red Star in the summer, would stay with his current club until the end of the season if Chelsea were to snap up the highly-rated midfielder, as per the Star.

Grujic was a key part of the Serbian under 20 national team who won FIFA Under 20 World Cup earlier this years and arrival to one of the major clubs in Europe is imminent for the youngster who got a lot of plaudits in the competition. His ability to play very well as the holding midfielder is what Chelsea need right now as the team is struggling badly with the poor form of his compatriot Matic.

England is a country where there are plenty of high profile talented Serbian stars. Aleksandar Kolarov, Dusan Tadic, Aleksandar Mitrovic are all well settled in the League and we can get another one in near future.

It is to be seen that how Manchester United react to the approach of rivals Chelsea for their target. The position of United are an advantage for them and they might capitalise on that.
