After weeks of anticipation, the grand finale of the Union of European Football Associations’ (UEFA) Champions League 2017-18 season finally kicked off in the capital of Ukraine in Kiev between defending champions Real Madrid and Liverpool.
As speculated, it turned out to be an action-packed event coupled with high drama and excitement.
Liverpool’s loyal army of supporters received a massive blow up front which might have changed the entire course of the game.
Before the game began, it was a clash of two iconic footballers of the present generation, namely, Cristiano Ronaldo and Mohammad Salah.
Unfortunately, due to a seemingly deliberate tackle by Sergio Ramos, Salah took a bad blow to his shoulder and wept his way out of the ground.
Following Salah, Carvajal also suffered a telling blow to his hamstring, which prohibited him to take further part in an exciting game.
After a dull first half, the real action began in the second, as two costly errors from goalkeeper Loris Karius, shattered the dream of Liverpool’s Champions League cup desire.
Karius intended to pass the ball to one of his defenders before he was intercepted by Karim Benzema. Sadio Mané instantaneously equalized for Liverpool – to keep the hopes of the Reds alive.
However, the turning point in the game with the substitution of Gareth Bale, who scored perhaps the best goal in the history of UCL grand finale, with his overhead bicycle kick, within a couple of minutes being introduced into the game.
The final blow to Liverpool came from Bale again who scored a ferocious goal from outside the box, sealing the deal for Madrid.
In the end, the shoulders of the Reds started to drop in the final few minutes of the game, as Real Madrid created history by clinching their third successive title.
